Everyone please read this! If you get a friend invite from the steam account “Marc James Ashley,” DO NOT ACCEPT IT! If you accept it, your PC will be infected with a seriously destructive virus that apparently makes your hardrive unbootable forever.
Also, if you get this virus by accepting the invite, every person on your STEAM friends list get the virus without accepting it themselves. This is something you don’t want to happen. I for one may be off STEAM for a while. My system is too precious lol. But yea, thats it. As soon as i find out more about this virus I will post it here immediately.
So tell EVERYONE on your STEAM friends list about this, otherwise you are at risk and there is nothing you can do about it!
—————————–READ UPDATE——————————-
*Update: there are some sources saying that this is just an email hoax. I am checking steams website constantly to get to the bottom of it.
*Update: ok so, after further research it seems like this is just a hoax. It happens every once in a while, and after the “panic” is spread there are some users who change their name to Marc James Ashley and send a friend invite to many people as a joke. Ha Ha… yeeeaaa
So if you get the invite, just decline it but you wont get a virus if you don’t (just an annoying person who may IM spam you). Thinking about it, I don’t see a virus with the potential to automatically infect all of the people on a friends list anyway, it doesn’t happen that way. Something usually needs to be executed. Anyway – have fun!
Regards.
