This is so annoying. A very similar problem existed for COD4 Modern Warfare. Its such a simple fix, but they couldn’t fix it for WaW? Bleh. Anyway, here’s what to do:
1. Click Start>Control Panel>Sound
2. Right click on default playback device
3. Select Properties
4. Select the Advanced tab
5. Set the default playback format to 24 bit 48000Hz which is Studio Quality on the drop down list
6. Save the changes and exit
Vista
1. Click Start>Control Panel>Hardware and Sound
2. Under Sound click Manage Audio Devices
3. Right click on the item that has a check mark next to it and click properties
4. Select the Advanced tab
5. Set the default playback format to 24 bit 48000Hz which is Studio Quality on the drop down list
6. Save the changes and exit
The problem should be resolved, so try launching and good luck!

There is no default playback device on the sounds menu on Windows XP.
I have the same problem.
shakaw xD - January 4th, 2010 at 7:33 pm
IVE GOT THE SOLUTION HAHAHAHA!
YOU NEED TO GO TO THE CONTROL PAINEL, THEN DOUBLE CLICK ON PHONE AND MODEM STUFF (MY WINDOWS XP IS IN PORTUGUESE SO IDK WHICH NAME IT HAS IN ENGLISH). ENTER ANY NUMBER ON THE FIRST SCREEN, IF ANY, THEN CLICK ON THE MODEM TAB AND REMOVE ALL MODEM DEVICES. THIS WILL SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.
Enjoy the game.

Some specialists state that business loans help people to live their own way, just because they are able to feel free to buy necessary things. Furthermore, some banks present consolidation loan for all people.

I have Windows XP SP 3 and having the same “Error during initialization: Unhandled exception caught.” issue. There is NO such thing like Sound in Control Panel. XP SP3 users have Sounds and Audio Devices in their Control panel. So what to change ? I have tried to remove all the Modem devices that shakaw xD suggested but nothing worked. Tell me what to do?
